When to reach for it

Same 16:9 and 9:16, the same 4, 6 and 8 second steps, and the same self-generated audio as full Veo 3.1, at 42 credits for a silent five-second take against 83.5, and 62.5 with audio against 167. For a shot that stands alone, that is a straightforward saving with little given up.

What is given up is references. Fast takes none, so nothing about the clip can be pinned to a character, product or look you already have. It is a single-shot tool, and planning a multi-shot sequence around it is the mistake to avoid, because the run will not hold together.

It does still accept a last frame, so first-and-last-frame interpolation works, and a chain built purely on frame handoff is possible even without reference images. That is a weaker form of continuity than full Veo's, but it is not nothing, and for b-roll and establishing shots it is usually enough. This is also the cheapest silent clip in the Veo family, since Lite has no silent mode.
