When to reach for it
The most capable model in the FLUX family and priced accordingly: 5 credits at 0.5 MP, 6 at 1 MP, 13.5 at 4 MP. Same seven references and same nine aspect ratios as Pro and Flex, so moving up the family costs no rework. Only the price per attempt changes.
Use it when the image is the finished thing rather than an input to something else. Hero art, a product shot that will be printed, a key frame the rest of a sequence will be built from. In those cases the difference between Pro and Max shows in the places that survive scrutiny: edges, materials, the coherence of complicated light.
Use Pro for everything else. The gap between the two is real but it is not large enough to justify iterating here. Find the image on Pro or on Schnell, and spend Max credits on the one frame that ships. That pattern applies across the whole catalog, and it applies most sharply at the top of a ladder this steep.

Iterate on Pro, render the keeper on Max, and only when the image is the finished deliverable.
